Obituary of Van Der Sloot

Jennie (Kooiker) Van Der Sloot, the daughter of Ralph J. and Jennie (Van De Weerd) Kooiker, was born in Rock Valley, IA on July 31, 1913. She spent her childhood years in Sioux County, IA. She was united in marriage to Egbert "Ed" Van Der Sloot on March 10, 1932 at Canton, SD. The couple lived in Cleghorn, IA, where Jennie took care of her home and family, and worked as a cook for the school and a local restaurant. Ed passed away on March 4, 1988. Two years later, Jennie moved to Lyons, KS where she was very active in the community. She was a member of the Lyons First United Methodist Church, Faith Branch UMW, and the Sorrosis Club. She was also a former board member for the Lyons Senior Center, and volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center. It was there at the Good Samaritan Center in Lyons that Jennie passed away on July 2, 2010, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, John, Edwin and Elmer Kooiker; one sister, Harriet Van Batavia; and one great-grandson. Left to cherish her memory is a son, Kenneth (Gale) Van Der Sloot of Kingman, AZ, formerly of Estherville, IA; a daughter, Marlene (Jim) Gloss of Livingston, TX, formerly of Cherokee, IA; two brothers, Henry Kooiker of Bellflower, CA, and Arthur Kooiker of Sheldon, IA; a sister, Maxine Napier of Muskogee, OK; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
