Obituary of Meta Groff

Memorial Tribute Meta Christine Anna (Brockshus) Groff was born February 27, 1915 to Henry and Dorothea Brockshus, near May City, Iowa. She first attended public school, and then the parochial school of St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John’s and was an active member her entire adult life. She received her GED in 1987 from Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. On July 6, 1941, she married Albert Groff, then of Hartley, Iowa. They lived most of their married life in May City, where Meta was a homemaker known for her gardening, needlework and quilting skills. She passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the age of 95. Meta is survived by her husband, their children: Alvin (Jane) Groff of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donald (Mary) Groff of Eagan, MN, Janice (Steve) Moore of Cedar Falls, IA, and Norbert (Shirley) Groff of Hartley, IA; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Erna Kooistra of Sheldon, and a brother, Herbert Brockshus of Ocheyedan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Vernon, John and Marvin.
