Obituary of Mary Ann Huibregtse

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Ann (Frohwein) Huibregtse, daughter of Fred and Mildred (Yates) Frohwein, was born on September 2, 1938, in Sanborn, Iowa. She spent her youth in Sanborn and Ocheyedan, Iowa, where she attended grade school. When she was in junior high, the family moved back to Sanborn, and she graduated from Sanborn Public High School in 1956. On August 16, 1956, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Raymond Huibregtse. After the wedding, they honeymooned in Yellowstone National Park while on their way to Butte, Montana, where Ray worked for a cattle buyer, Earl Britton. They soon returned to Sanborn where they eventually raised their three children and farmed together. Later, they also owned and operated Sheldon Commodities. Mary Ann loved living on the farm and helping Ray with whatever she could. She enjoyed gardening and canning her produce each year. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her grandchildren fondly remember her chocolate chip cookies! She was an avid reader and a frequent visitor to the Public Library. For many years Mary Ann was employed by Farm Business Association in Sheldon during the tax season where she assisted with the processing of farm tax returns. Ray and Mary Ann had many dogs during their life, and their current one, Ben, stole Mary Ann's heart. She was a treasured grandmother and great-grandmother, and always enjoyed the times she could spend with her family and friends. In August of 2009, Mary Ann was diagnosed with lung cancer, which she battled courageously for the next ten months. She received victory over the disease when she entered into eternity on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. She was 71. Mary Ann loved her Lord and walked out her faith, serving Him and others with a humble, caring spirit. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn for over 50 years, where she served on the Board of Trustees and the Deacon Committee, and participated in many Bible studies. She was a member of the Mi'Ono Club in Sanborn and always loved her night out with the girls. For a number of years she participated in bowling and golf leagues. Survivors include her husband, Ray; a son, Steve Huibregtse of Austin, Texas, and a daughter, Elizabeth (Tim) Carlson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a son-in-law, Guy Wolfinger of Longmont, CO; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, DuWayne (Esther) Frohwein, of Tucson, Arizona, and David (Carol) Frohwein, of DeWitt, Iowa, a sister, Janice (Joe) Villanueva, of Holland, Michigan and a sister-in-law, Allene Baichtal of Sanborn; three nieces and four nephews.
