Obituary of Edith Lux

Edith Erna Effie (Olhausen) Lux, the daughter of Martha (Bethke) and Henry Olhausen, was born on August 1, 1910 in O’Brien County, Iowa. She received her education in the Hartley schools.She continued to live in O’Brien County her entire life. She was united in marriage to Harold Lux on January 6, 1935. Their first three years as a married couple were spent on a farm southwest of Hartley. They then moved onto her parents’ farm, also near Hartley. They were blessed with two sons, Norman and Orlan. Following their retirement in 1968, Harold and Edith moved into Hartley. Harold died on May 29, 1987. Edith moved to Assisted Living at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley in 2004. She transferred to the Health Center’s Mann Wing in February of 2008. She passed away there on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at the age of 99. Edith worked for the local telephone office, and was Chief Operator for seven years. She had been a member of Trinity UCC all of her life. It was there that she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Dorcas Society, where she held various offices through the years. She belonged to a number of Bridge Clubs and the KLIO Club for forty years. She liked playing Bingo and visiting the casinos. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Edith loved being around people. Her greatest pride was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Clarence and Ralph, a sister, Leta, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Olhausen, and a grandson-in-law, Anthony Salazar. She is survived by her sons and their families: Norman Lux and his wife Myrna, and Orlan Lux and his wife, Therese, all of Hartley; eight grandchildren: Robin (Al) Sindt, Lucas and Emily of Everly, IA, Neil (Lori) Lux of Sioux Center, IA, Nicole Salazar (Kelly Roder), Eric and Alic of Rock Valley, IA, Ryan (Kim) Lux , Owen and Ian of Cherokee, IA, Jennifer (Mike) Hidding, Paige and Tara of Edina, MN, JoAnn (Jeff) Little, Jack and Jared of Montezuma, IA, Dr. Matthew Lux of San Diego, CA, and Morgan Lux of Hartley; other relatives and many friends.
