Obituary of Averil Dodge

Memorial Tribute Averil Willamina (Sones) Dodge, the daughter of Cora (Wright) and George W. Sones, was born on December 6, 1912, in Quimby, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Cherokee County, Iowa area. She graduated from Quimby High School, and later spent two years at Business College. Averil married Everett M. Dodge on November 24, 1932 at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple moved to a farm near Superior, Iowa before settling on the "home place" near Hartley, where they farmed until their retirement. They enjoyed several winters in Mesa, Arizona. Everett passed away on September 12, 1995. Averil moved into town, and later to the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. She passed away at the Spencer Memorial Hospital on November 20, 2009 at the age of 96. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Hartley. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting, and traveling. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Merna and her husband, Eldon Menke of Hartley, Janna and her husband, Donald Dirks of Spencer, Iowa, Darrel Dodge and his wife, Sharlene of Hartley, Deena and her husband Ronald Pyle of Ankeny, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Loanne Dodge also of Ankeny; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Doyle Sones and Dewitt Sones; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Everett, son Gordon, one brother, D. Sones, and a great granddaughter, Alexandria Schaben.
