Obituary of Leigh Anne Wolfinger

Please share a memory of Leigh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leigh Anne (Huibregtse) Wolfinger passed away on Saturday November 7, 2009 at the age of 50 after battling cancer for over three years. Leigh was born on Christmas Eve 1958, the second child of Mary Ann (Frohwein) and Ray Huibregtse of Sanborn, Iowa. Leigh developed a strong work ethic, splitting her time between the family farm and her various athletic and academic endeavors. While attending Sanborn High School, Leigh excelled as a student, an athlete and was very involved in extracurricular activities. Leigh would eventually go onto college at Arizona State University majoring in supply chain management. In 1981 Leigh was recruited by StorageTek of Colorado where she would meet many friends and her future husband. Leigh’s career spanned more than twenty-five years and six companies (StorageTek, Martin Marietta, Exabyte, McDATA, Crosswalk, and Plasmon). In 1984 Leigh married Guy Wolfinger while on a rugby adventure in Barbados. With assorted Denver Barbarians rugby players, wives, and girlfriends as their witnesses, Leigh and Guy said their “I do’s” while barefoot on the golf course. In early 1986 their first daughter Lynn Elizabeth was born in Denver, Colorado where they had made their home. After moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1990 Lauren Faye arrived in May of 1991. Guy and Leigh briefly lived in Austin, Texas and had a wonderful time enjoying new friends, the hill country wildflowers, and the weather. In the summer of 2003 they returned to Longmont, Colorado where they have lived ever since. Leigh was originally diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2006 and spent the last three years doing whatever necessary to battle her disease. Throughout this ordeal Leigh loved staying fit and hiking in the Boulder foothills. In spite of the cancer, Leigh was physically strong and healthy and fueled by the Holy Spirit which enabled her to live out a few last wishes most notably Lauren’s first collegiate basketball game on November 6th. Through all of her trials Leigh and her family maintained a steadfast and strong connection with their faith in their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Leigh is survived by her husband Guy, two daughters, Lynn of Austin, Texas and Lauren of Colorado Springs. Leigh has two siblings, Steve Huibregtse of Austin, Texas and Beth Carlson (Tim) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Leigh has seven nieces and nephews with one great niece and a great nephew. Leigh’s parents, Ray and Mary Ann Huibregtse and a large extended family still live in and around Sanborn, Iowa. There will be two services to celebrate Leigh’s remarkable life. On Saturday November 14th in Sanborn, Iowa Leigh’s ashes will be laid to rest in a private family burial followed by a 10:30 service at First Presbyterian Church. The second service will take place at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado on Thursday, November 19th at 4:00 p.m. Receptions will follow both services. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations can be made to: The Wolfinger Scholarship Fund, c/o Jorgensen Motycka & Lewis, P.C., 709 Third Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501.
