Obituary of Denny Dagel

Memorial Tribute Dennis Gene Dagel, the son of Richard and Margaret (Brandt) Dagel, was born in Melvin, Iowa on January 31, 1937. He moved with his family to Sibley, Iowa, where he received his early education. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 through 1957. Following his time in the military, he married Carol Habbena. To this union, four children were born: Toni, Sandy, Brett, and Jackie. The couple later divorced. On April 23, 1990 he was united in marriage to Marsha Strubbe. Denny was a long-time employee for the city of Sanborn. Over the years he was involved with nearly every aspect of city maintenance. Even after his (semi-) retirement, he continued to mow and maintain Roseland Cemetery. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and traveling. He often helped farmers with their field work. He was faithfully tuned in to either the cooking channels or Channel 72. Another favorite pastime was driving around town and visiting with anyone he came across. He loved having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him. After Marsha passed way on October 5, 2008, Denny’s health began to fail, and he passed away at his home in Sanborn on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the age of 72. Survivors include four children: Toni Swets of Douglas, WY, Sandy (Mark) Dillard of Henderson, NV, Brett (Stephanie) Dagel of Omaha, NE, and Jackie Klingenberg of Henderson, NV; four step-children: Deb Tifft of Sanborn, Terry (Karen) Strubbe of Everly, IA, Kathy Strubbe of Hartley, IA, and Laurie (Jim) Van Iperen of Hartley; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Gary (Cathy) Dagel, Jack (Carol) Dagel, Donna Dagel (Scott Davis), Don (Linda) Dagel, John (Karen) Dagel, Pat (Doug) Mahlman, Mike (LeAnn) Dagel, Mark (Brenda) Dagel, and Peg Dagel; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marsha, and two brothers, Harold and John. Celebration of Life Dennis G.
