Obituary of Dorothy Bosma
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy June (Hofman) Bosma, the daughter of Cornelia (Bonnes) and Ben Hofman, was born on June 9, 1924, on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in Sanborn, and attended Sanborn Christian School.
On December 18, 1941, she was united in marriage to Marvin Bosma. The couple lived and farmed in the Sheldon and Sanborn areas for a total of 25 years. Upon retirement from farming in December of 1966, they moved to Sheldon. In November 2002, they moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Marvin passed away on October 3, 2005. Shortly before her death, Dorothy moved to the Beehive Home in Sheldon where she passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the age of 85.
In addition to taking care of her home and family, Dorothy had, at one time, been employed at Sheridan’s 5 & 10 in Sanborn. After moving to Sheldon, she worked as manager of the drug department at the Hy-Vee grocery store for many years.
She was an active member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, and attended many Bible Studies. She enjoyed traveling and collecting sea shells. She made dolls, tatted and crocheted doilies, as well as baby blankets, booties and sweaters. She loved playing games—especially her own version of “Black Rook”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, a granddaughter, Lisa Kreykes, five sisters and one brother.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Bonnie and Gary Kreykes of Sanborn, Dennis and Cindy Bosma of Sheldon, and Pat and Jon Sybesma of Sanborn; 10 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Polly Hofman, and sister-in-law Lucille Hofman, all of Sanborn; other relatives and friends.
