Obituary of Cleo Rieck

Cleo Catherine (Crowl) Rieck, the daughter of Roy and Emma (Kruse) Crowl, was born on October 25, 1919 at Peterson, Iowa. She attended school in Moneta and Everly and graduated in 1938. Cleo went on to attend the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. On March 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to Alvin Rieck at the Trinity United Church of Christ Hartley, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, Connie, James, Tom, Roger, Bev, Patty and Debbie. The couple were engaged in farming together for 55 years in the Ocheyedan and May City area. Together they raised livestock, milked cows, and kept up a family sized garden. Cleo entered the Community Memorial Health Center in January of 2004 and passed away there on September 21, 2009 at the age of 89. Cleo was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of May City. She was an avid gardener and baker, loved music and dancing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Alvin, of 65 years; seven children: Connie Long of Spirit lake, IA, James (Kathy) Rieck, of Primghar, IA, Tom (Kathy) Rieck, of Hartley, IA, Roger Rieck and Kim Krueger of Truman, MN, Bev (Don) Reiman of Geneva, NE, Patty (Dean) Houser of Dell Rapids, SD and Debbie (Tracy) Gathman of Monroe, IA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister Betty (Clark) Chickering of Spencer, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald Crowl and sister-in-law Arleen (Crowl) Tichy. A Celebration of Life Cleo C.
