Memorial Tribute
Jennie (Runia) Postma, the daughter of Tunis and Nellie (Faber) Runia, was born on January 23, 1921 near Allendorf, Iowa. She received her education at Wilson Township School #2 in Osceola County, Iowa.
She married Carl Postma on February 7, 1951 at Sanborn, Iowa. The couple farmed near Sanborn. Carl passed away on September 6, 1997. Jennie moved from the farm into Sanborn until her health began to fail. She then became a resident at the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon. It was there that she passed away on September 18, 2009 at the age of 88.
Jennie was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn and was active in many of the church’s programs through the years. She was a member of the Birthday Club for over 50 years, the American Legion Auxiliary, a participant of the Dinner Date since its beginning and quilted with the St. John Lutheran quilters.
She loved to do hand work such as quilting, crocheting and embroidery. Most of this she lovingly shared with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter Loretta and her husband, John Boender of Ashton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kristin Boender of Sheldon, IA, Mark and Katie Boender of Doon, IA and their children Kadence Violet and Aubree Jennie, Lisa Boender of Ankeny, IA, and Joel Boender of Ames, IA; five sisters: Anna (John) Bialas of Sioux Falls, SD, Tracy Kuipers and Josie Vogel, both of Worthington, MN, Sylvia Andringa of Sanborn, and Gertrude (Gary) Abels of Sibley, IA; two brothers: Peter (Joanne) Runia of Hamilton, MT, and John (Marjorie) Runia of Estelline, SD; one brother-in-law and his wife, James (Jessie) Postma of Sanborn; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl and two brothers in infancy.
