Obituary of Dorothy Kaiser

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Rose (Crooks) Kaiser, the daughter of Alfred O. and Rosabell (Rowland) Crooks, was born on a farm near Primghar, Iowa on July 8, 1914. After two years, she and her family moved to a farm east of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Dorothy attended a country school and later graduated from Spirit Lake High School. She earned her teaching degree at Mankato State, and received her tuition free if she promised to teach in Minnesota, which she did. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern College. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harry H. Kaiser on August 25, 1948. The couple lived in the Archer community throughout their married life. They were blessed with the adoption of a daughter, Joyce. After Harry passed away on January 5, 2003, Dorothy remained in her own home in Archer until just two weeks before her death. Dorothy first taught in country schools, and then in Archer, IA, Worthington, MN, Cheyenne, WY, and Sheldon, IA. She joined the United Methodist Church at a young age, and had been a faithful member ever since. She served as an officer for the local UMW as well as for the District and Conference UMW. She taught Sunday school for over 70 years. Family was very important to Dorothy. Her many years of teaching were a testament of her love for children. She never stopped trying to bring others to Christ—especially children. She enjoyed dressing up dolls and making lap robes and pajamas for the children of Aid of Siouxland. She collected cups and saucers. She had a special place in her heart for the Hospice of Sheldon workers; she enjoyed their company and very much appreciated their kindness. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving mother and a very caring person. She passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center on Monday, August 3, 2009, at the age of 95. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Kaiser of LeMars; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vernon and Bernice Kaiser; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers. Celebration of Life Dorothy R.
