Obituary of Roy Petersen

Roy Richard Petersen, the son of Harry and Eva (Hebbel) Petersen was born on December 3, 1934 in Hartley, Iowa. He grew up in the Hartley, Iowa, area where he attended country school. On February 19, 1961 Dick was united in marriage to Elaine D. Baedke at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Graettinger, Iowa To this union two children were born, a son Mike and a daughter Anita. Following their marriage the couple, were engaged in farming together for many years. Following his years as a farmer Dick continued in the farming industry working for area farmers as a laborer. He later went on to drive truck for Brinkert Feed Co. and then Holco Feed Co. for 18 years. Dick passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the age of 74. Dick was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Trinity Brotherhood, and a former member of the Hartley Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, driving around Hartley in his pick-up, and spending time with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Elaine, for 48 years; his children: Mike Petersen of Hartley, IA, Anita Schiphoff of Harris, IA; one grandson: David Brinkman, of Harris, IA; a sister Lucille Quist, and her husband, Charles, of Hartley, IA; a sister-in-law: Marjorie Petersen of Hartley, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Ethel (in infancy) and Arlene Wescott; two brothers: Myron “Bud” Petersen and Eldon Petersen; a son-in-law: Jay Schiphoff; and two brothers-in-law: Richard Groen and Ed Wescott.
