Jarold (Jiggs) Dean Jager, the son of Elmer and Ethel (Ihnen) Jager, was born on September 5, 1930 in Hartley, IA. He was baptized on November 2, 1930 and confirmed on May 20, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Jarold spent his childhood years in Hartley where he attended country school and went on to graduate from Hartley High School. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954, serving on the USS Corregidor. He was awarded the ribbons for National Defense, The United Nations, The Korean Service, Navy Occupation and Good Conduct. Jarold returned from the Navy, and was united in marriage to Shirley Jo Popp on September 11, 1955 in Hartley at the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church. They farmed from 1955 to 1993, where Vera Sun currently resides. They moved to Hartley in 1968 and built a new home. In 1979, they built the Double J and owned and operated it for eight years. Jarold and Shirley were blessed with 53 years of marriage together. They had four children: Rhonda, Deanna, Jerry and Mark. Jarold was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 288 and VFW post 4514. He loved to dance, was an excellent craftsman with woodworking and enjoyed making things for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with two special little friends: Grant and Eli Honken. Jarold passed away at his home on March 20, 2009 at the age of 78. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Shirley; their children: Rhonda, and her husband, Bill Pippy of Hartley, Deanna and her husband Roger Cermak of Mabank, TX, Mark Jager and his wife, Jennifer, of Eden Prairie, MN. Eight grandchildren: Ashley (Jesse) Benz, Nicolette Pippy, Catlin Cermak, Rachel, Brianna, Austin Jager, Seth Jager and Lacey (Jake) Estep. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Jerry; a sister: Wilma (Jager) Clay; his mother-in-law: Esther Popp and father-in-law: Ed Popp. A Celebration of Life 0f Jarold D.
