Obituary of Adeline Buechler

Adeline LaVerna Buechler, the daughter of Gottleib and Adella (Heibel) Schmeichel, was born on March 31, 1931 on her family farm near Dolton, SD. She spent her childhood years in Salem, SD where she attended Grant School District #3-15 country school. In later years Adeline attended Northwest Iowa Technical College and Iowa Lakes Community College.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Buechler on June 4, 1950 in Salem, SD. To this union two children were born, Darrell and Gloria. Following their marriage the couple moved to Sioux City, IA, where Adeline worked as a nurse’s aide in the Lutheran Hospital. The couple then moved to Sioux Falls, SD and in 1968 they moved to Hartley, IA where they purchased the Iowan Motel and ran it for six years. In 1975 she went to work as a certified nurse’s aide at the Mann Wing for many years and was made employee of the month.
Eugene and Adeline were blessed with 58 years of marriage together. Adeline was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and did a lot of volunteer work at the Mann Wing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, gardening, flowers, crossword puzzles, crocheting and knitting. Following a brief illness, Adeline passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the age of 77.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eugene; her children: Darrell Buechler of Hartley and his special friend Dianne Cummings of Melvin, and daughter Gloria Nieman of Spencer, IA; one grandchild and two great -grandchildren; one sister, Ella Van Emmerik and her husband Leonard, of Salem, SD; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Joseph Nieman, twin brother, Albin Schmeichel, and step-dad Francis Bride.
