Memorial Tribute Lila Elaine Maranell, the daughter of Ray and Clara (Williams) Brownmiller, was born on a farm near Cherokee, IA on March 12, 1914. She lived her youth in the rural Cherokee area where she attended country school and received her diploma in the eighth grade. She married John Stewart on May 7, 1932 in Cherokee, IA, and lived for several years in Nebraska. They later divorced. She was united in marriage to Tracy Maranell on June 19, 1940. After more than 20 years together, the couple divorced, but remained life-long friends. Lila devoted her life to taking care of other people. She looked after the children of many local families, cleaned homes, did home health care, and for many years, cleaned insurance offices in Paullina. Following a life of serving others until she was well into her golden years, Lila became a resident at the Paullina Care Center on August 9, 1999. She then moved to the Prairie View Campus in Sanborn on October 8, 2008. She passed away there on November 25, 2008 at the age of 94. Lila was active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cherokee. She was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Spencer, IA on April 29, 1950. She faithfully read her Bible everyday as long as she was able. She had been an avid gardener who loved flowers and always had some in her home. She was a willing caregiver to anyone who asked. She is survived by her children: John E. (Suana) Stewart of El Paso, TX, Tom Borgman of Reno, NV, Lowell F. (Erma) Ruge of Steilacom, WA, Juanita (Wayne) Ehret of Sac City, IA and Ronald L. (special friend Joyce) Maranell of Vermillion, SD; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Harland L. (Barbara) Brownmiller of Spencer, IA; one sister, Vanona C. Conry of Hartley, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Tracy; five brothers: Elmo, Vernon, Rosco, Orval and Ralph; one sister, Pearl Petterson, and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Borgman.
