Obituary of Arlin Brandt

Arlin Arthur Brandt was born on March 11, 1926 near Melvin, IA, the son of John C. and Elsie (Schuster) Brandt. He lived his early years in the Melvin area, attending country school. Following his school years, Arlin worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country during World War II serving as an infantryman.
He was united in marriage to Deltha Getting on June 9, 1948 in Sanborn, IA. Arlin and Deltha were married for 59 years and were blessed with four children: Susan, Michael, Ronald and Randy. Following their marriage, the couple was engaged in farming near Melvin for many years until retiring in 2006. In later years the couple did a lot of traveling to visit their sons where they were stationed while serving our country. On November 16, 2008 Arlin passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn at the age of 82.
Arlin was a member of the American Legion Guthrie Post #470 of Melvin. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, golfing, playing cards with family and friends, and reading books. Most of all Arlin enjoyed traveling with Deltha to different places every year to visit family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Deltha; his children and their families: Susan Brandt of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Michael (Christine) Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA and Ronald Brandt of Sunnyvale, CA; three grandchildren: Carrie Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA, Amy (Andy) Christopher of Fredricksburg, VA, and Laurie Brandt of Spotsylvania, VA: four great grandchildren: Callie, Ashleigh, Andrew and Addison; two brothers: Bill (Ruth) Brandt of Sanborn, IA, Harold (Francine) Brandt of Sanborn, IA; three sisters: Agnes Krager of Sanborn, IA, Lois Luton of Melvin, IA and Dorothy (Wally) Tesch of Paullina, IA; a brother-in-law: Norman (Fern) Getting of Sioux Falls, SD; two sister-in-laws: Kathryn Brandt and Ilene Brandt both of Sanborn, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, son Randy in 1978, an infant granddaughter, three brothers: Arnold, Lloyd and Junior Brandt; two sisters Margaret Dagel and Betty Brandt.
