Memorial Tribute
Elwyn Dale Grauer, the son of Fred and Cecelia (Mackowski) Grauer, was born on December 3, 1935 at Cherokee, IA. He grew up and received his education in Cherokee, graduating from Washington High School.
He was united in marriage to Wilma “Willy” Ferris on May 26, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He and Willy settled in Sanborn, and it was there that they raised their son, Nick. Over the years, Dale worked for the O’Brien County Engineer’s Office, managed the Standard Oil Gas Stations in Primghar and Sanborn, and worked for the Post Offices in both Sheldon and Sanborn. He was later a rural mail carrier in the Sanborn area. After retirement, Dale enjoyed working at the Ready Mix Plant in Sanborn. When his health was good, he spent his time fishing, bowling and playing golf. He died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the age of 72.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Sanborn; one son Nick and his wife Vickie and their children Kyle and Andy of California; two brothers Sherald (Carole) Grauer and Bob Grauer; six sisters: Evelyn Stoner, Lila (Orville) Saxby, Darlene (Don) Radke, Shirley (LeRoy) Larson, MaryAnn (Bill) Rasmus, and Margie (Joe) Veale; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Charles Stoner.
