Obituary of Larry Mercer

Larry Gordon Mercer, the son of Edward Lloyd and Lucille Virginia (Hogeboom) Mercer, was born on October 25, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa. He spent his childhood years in the Sergeant Bluff, IA area, where he attended public school. On December 18, 1976 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Epping in Sioux City, Iowa. The family lived in Leads, Iowa where Larry worked as a diesel mechanic, and went on to drive truck for Dahlen Transportation. In 1981 they moved to Sanborn where Larry operated his truck for Van Hof Trucking. In 1994, due to health reasons, he retired from trucking. He passed away at his home on July 5, 2008, at the age of 63. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, spending time with his grandchildren and watching all sports. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlotte; his children and their families: David Mercer and wife Michelle and their children Ashley and Cody of Milford, IA, Russ Mercer and his daughters Miranda and Dielle of Topeka, KS, Rod Mercer and wife Allison and their children Adam, Samantha and Emily of Spirit Lake, IA, Brad Mercer and wife Sherry and their children Taylor, Alec, Kyla and Landon of Spirit Lake, IA, Lora (Mercer) Gach and husband Jim and their children Dylan and Mackinzie of Ankeny, IA; two brothers, Harley Mercer and Kenneth Mercer and wife Lenice all of Sioux City, IA; one sister Connie Tilton of Marona, AZ; his mother-in-law, Agatha Epping of Sheldon, IA; four brothers-in-law: Ron Epping and wife Norma and family of Fargo, ND, Bob Epping and wife Suzie and family of Sanborn, IA, Steve Epping and family of Des Moines, IA, and Jerry Epping and wife Penni and family, also of Des Moines, IA; a sister-in-law, Mary (Epping) Smith and husband Jim and family of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lucille Mercer; father-in-law, John (Jack) Epping, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Gach. In Loving Memory… Larry G.
