Obituary of Marlene Alons

Memorial Tribute Glenda Marlene (Brink) Alons was born in Hospers, IA on March 27, 1931 to Simon and Gertie (Vanden Brink) Brink. Marlene attended Hospers Public School and graduated in 1948, she went on to attend Northwestern College and received her degree in education. Marlene served as a school teacher for three years, one in Sioux Center and two in Archer. On March 13, 1953, Marlene married John Bernard Alons in the Presbyterian Church in Hospers, IA. To this union seven children were born; Sharon, Michael, Gerald, Nancy, Susan, Patricia and Doug. Following their marriage the couple moved to California while John served in the United States Navy. After serving his country the couple moved to a farm northwest of Sanborn in 1954 and were engaged in farming together for 44 years. In 1998 the couple retired and moved off the farm to Sanborn. Marlene passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the age of 77. Marlene was a member of Cornerstone United Reformed Church of Sanborn and served as a volunteer at Village Northwest in Sheldon. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and sewing. She is survived by her children: Sharon Beuzekom and her husband, Tom, of Sioux City, IA, Michael Alons and his wife Vickie, of Sheldon, IA, Gerald Alons and his wife, Deb, of Sanborn, IA, Nancy Abraham and her husband, Joel, of Monticello, MN, Susan Kramer and her husband, Glen, of Brandon, SD, Patricia Sittig and her husband, Doug, of Sioux Falls, SD and Doug Alons and his wife, Kathy, of Orange City, IA; grandchildren: Jennifer, Brandon, and Angela Beuzekom; Jonathan Alons and his wife, Joy, Nicholas Alons and his wife Allison, and Kristy LaRoy and her husband Tim; Aaron Alons and his wife Renee, Laurel Koerner and her husband Ethan, and Leah Alons; Justin and Nathan Abraham; Ben and Maggie Kramer; Jennifer and Paul Sittig; and Megan and Keaton Alons; 9 great- grandchildren; two brothers: Stan Brink and his wife, Lorraine, of Centennial, CO, Allan Brink and his wife, Sharon, of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister: Joann Nelson and her husband, Don, of Sioux Rapids, IA, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John in 2003.
