Memorial Tribute
Ester Dorothy (Sandersfeld) Mohr, the daughter of Claus and Wilhemina (Mielke) Sanderfeld, was born on a farm in Harrison Township, Osceola County, Iowa, on June 18, 1921. She spent most of her life in the May City and Ocheyedan areas. Ester attended school at Harrison Township #6. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City.
On May 17, 1945 she was united in marriage to George Henry Mohr at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City, IA. The couple was blessed with four children: Sylvia, Cynthia, Lois and Paul. Ester and George were engaged in farming together for many years until retiring in 1978 and moving to May City. She passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA on April 20, 2008 at the age of 86.
Ester was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Lutheran Laymen’s League, Ladies Aid, where she held many offices, Women’s Missionary League, taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of the choir. She also served as secretary for A.A.L. and A.A.L. Lamplighters Clubs.
Survivors include her children: Cynthia Bauer and her husband Michael of San Antonio, TX, Lois Schroeder and her husband Roger, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Paul Mohr and his wife, Jodi of Ocheyedan, IA; eight grandchildren: Anthony Nelson and his wife Heather, of Jackson, NE, Nicholas Nelson of Jackson, NE, Michael Bauer and his wife Jennifer of Cibolo, TX, Christina Brown and her husband Will, of San Antonio, TX, Nathan and his wife Ruth, of Richmond, VA, Glenda Schroeder of Richmond, VA, Tyler and his wife, Ashley of Blair, NE, and Lindsey Mohr of Sioux City, IA; 1 great-grandchild William Schroeder of Richmond, VA; and a sister Dorothy Mohr of Worthington, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 1984; daughter Sylvia in 1996; two brothers: Clarence and Alfred Sandersfeld; and a sister Laura Sandersfeld.
