Obituary of Verlene Mori

Memorial Tribute Verlene Mabel (Fanning) Mori, the daughter of Grover and Edith (Gathman) Fanning, was born on a farm in Westport Township, Dickinson County, Iowa, on April 29, 1913. She spent her childhood in the May City and Hartley areas, and graduated from Hartley High School in 1931. On May 15, 1936 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Mori at Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home on a farm near Everly, Iowa until retiring and moving to Hartley in 1981. Verlene enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing, and playing cards. Throughout their marriage, she and Lloyd loved to dance, and would travel around the area attending dances. Holidays were a special joy for Verlene, because it was then that she could decorate the house and prepare wonderful meals for her family. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and the Dorcas Society. She passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA on April 11, 2008 at the age of 94. Survivors include her three daughters and their families: Betty Ann and her husband Robert Steuben of Royal, IA, Shirley and her husband Robert Sorenson of Urbandale, IA, and Linda and her husband Larry Aakhus of Lawton, IA; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother Vernon Fanning and his wife Helen of Des Moines, IA and a sister-in-law Sadie (Mori) Adams of Spirit Lake, IA; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Verlis Fanning and Verle Fanning.
