Obituary of Lorine Verdoorn

Memorial Tribute Lorine (Bergsma) Verdoorn, the daughter of Rink and Aggie (Haarsma) Bergsma, was born on March 11, 1927 at Sibley, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in Sibley, and attended the Sibley School. On February 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Mitchell Verdoorn, at her parents’ home in Sibley. The couple was blessed with three children. They first began farming near Sheldon, and over the years, farmed near May City, Hartley, and Primghar, Iowa. They retired on their farm near Primghar. Lorine entered Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa in December of 1999.It was there that she passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the age of 81. Lorine had a strong desire to be the best homemaker she could be. An accomplished seamstress, she made all of her own clothing, and most of her daughters’ while they were growing up. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, fishing and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren on the farm—she loved them dearly, and had a special place for them in her heart. She was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Mitchell; three children: Jan Verdoorn and his wife Helen of Sanborn, IA, Arlene Milbrodt and her husband Arlin of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Marsha Southwick and her husband Steve of Ocheyedan, IA; five grandsons: Jim (Teresa) Verdoorn, Rob (Traci) Verdoorn, Lee (Amanda) Verdoorn, Craig (Megan) Verdoorn, and Michael Dickey; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Verdoorn and Clara Vander Plas, both of Sibley, IA other relatives and friends. Lorine was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Andrew Bergsma, and one sister Jeannette Jilderda.
