Esther (Thu) Rachuy, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Tangen) Thu, both of Norway, was born on September 18, 1914 at Luverne, MN. She attended country school and high school in Rushmore, MN. Esther married Martin Rachuy on March 11, 1936 in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Hartley, IA. They became the parents of two sons, Ronald and Daryl. Martin passed away on May 23, 1983. Esther was active in her church and community. At one time she was a den mother in Scouting. She was a past member of Eastern Star, Klio Club, and the Health Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 40 years, and was a member of the UMW. She had a love for poetry, and a great love for her family—especially her grand-children and great-grandchildren. Esther passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, IA on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the age of 93. Left to cherish her memory: one son, Ronald and his wife, Ellen of Sioux City, IA; four grandchildren: Kim and her husband, David Miller of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Jerome Rachuy and his wife, Carolyn of Hartford, SD, Shane Rachuy and his wife, Amy, and Chad Rachuy, all of Sioux City, IA; five great-grandchildren: Brett and Brittany Miller, and Ali Rachuy, Jordan and Morgan LeBeau; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin; son Daryl; two sisters: Evelyn Thu (in infancy), and Laura (Thu) Licht; and two brothers: Andy Thu and Russell Thu.
