Marvin Earl Lux, the son of Mathias and Hedwig (Zinn) Lux, was born on April 7, 1925 in Hartley, Iowa. He spent his childhood on a farm near Moneta, Iowa. His parents moved to Hartley in 1940, so Marvin made his home with his brother Harold and his wife Edith. He attended school in Moneta and Hartley. On March 31, 1944 he entered the military service. After 16 weeks of basic training at Fort Hood, TX, he went overseas to Germany and fought for his country. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After he was honorably discharged on March 31, 1946, he worked for some area farmers, and then began farming on his own. On June 26, 1949, Marvin was united in marriage to Gloria Albright. To this union, three sons were born—Keith Matthew in 1951, Randall Freeman in 1954 and Duane Earl in 1956. The couple continued their farming on the George Albright farm until 1982 when they moved into Hartley. Marvin farmed with his son, Randy, until Marvin’s retirement in 1990. Marvin was good to his fellow man. His favorite hobby was his farming. He was a member of the Arthur W. Kirchhoff American Legion Post #288 of Hartley, and the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed good health until, after a short illness, he passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center Mann Wing in Hartley on March 1, 2008 at the age of 82. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 58 years, Gloria, his sons Keith and his wife Kristy of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Randy and his fiancee Kim Jones of Indian Wells, CA; three grandchildren: Carolyn Lux of Denver, CO, David and his wife Kori Lux of Everly, IA, and Tate Lux of Phoenix, AZ; one great grandson, Davin; one sister Leona Geerdes of Urbandale, IA; a sister-in-law, Edith Lux of Hartley, a sister-in-law,Virginia Pflanz of Sioux City, IA, and brother-in-law Merle Albright and his wife Jo, of Albuquerque, NM; other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceeded in death by his parents, son Duane, and three brothers, William, Emil and Harold.
