Memorial Tribute
Vivian Bertha (Muilenburg) Walker, the daughter of Corneilious Jasper and Nellie (Noteboom) Muilenburg, was born on September 15, 1921 in Melvin, IA. She spent her childhood in the Melvin area, and.
attended Country School by Melvin.
On January 31, 1939, she was united in marriage to LeRoy W. Walker in Sibley, IA, at the Reformed Church Parsonage. The couple made their home in the Melvin area except for one year while LeRoy was in the service the couple resided in Alabama. They farmed together and raised their five children: Janice, Lionel (Butch), Mary, Joan, and Cynthia. When Vivian wasn't helping LeRoy on the farm she worked as a cook for Jay's Restaurant in Sanborn for nine years and the YoGo Inn in Melvin for five years. She passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the age of 86.
Vivian is survived by her five children: Janice Nelson and her husband, Lee, of Cherokee, IA, Lionel (Butch) Walker and his wife, Theresa, of Hospers, IA, Mary Steinmetz and Joan Helmers both of Melvin, IA and Cynthia Armstrong and her husband, Joe, of Evans, GA; Ten grandchildren; Eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; a sister-in-law Iris Muilenburg of Westminister, CA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two son-in-laws; five sisters and two brothers.
Vivian was a member of the United Methodist Church of Melvin and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and gardening. Vivian will be fondly remembered by many people for the wonderful pies and cakes that she made. Most of all she will be remembered as a loving grandmother and great grandmother who always made time for her family and friends.
