Obituary of Ruth Mary Mielke

Memorial Tribute Ruth Mary (Dorman) Mielke, the daughter of Christian and Hannah Marie (Swanson) Dorman, was born on September 21, 1920 in Osceola County near Melvin, IA. She spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm, where she received her education at Melvin Consolidated and graduated from in 1938. On November 25, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage to Arthur H. Mielke in South Sioux City, NE. The couple was blessed with two boys Donald and Michael. Following their marriage the couple moved to a farm north of Hartley. Ruth and Arthur were engaged in farming for many years until Arthur’s passing in 1981. In 1982 Ruth moved off the family farm to the town of Hartley. Ruth also resided at the Hartley Wellness Center, the Assisted Living and Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn where she passed away on December 16, 2007. Ruth was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Melvin and Thursday Afternoon Circle. She enjoyed doing embroidery work, cooking, watching sports and game shows on TV, and was active in church circle. Her favorite pastimes were playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, dinner date with her pals, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sons: Donald Mielke and his wife, Sandra of Hartley, IA, Michael Mielke and his wife, Derrita (Dee) of Everly, IA; grandchildren: Ladonna Mielke of Mankato, MN, Denise Mielke of Sioux Falls, SD, Timothy and Jill Mielke and their daughter, Danielle of Graettinger, IA, Shanna and Thomas Brandt and their children, Michael and Ianna, of Harrisburg, SD; sisters: Vera and Betty Ebel of Spencer, IA, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, sisters Anna Kearny and Helen Dorman; brothers-in-law Lloyd Kearny, Ernest Ebel, Howard Ebel and John Fritz; sister-in-law Alma (Mielke) Fritz.
