Obituary of Patricia Steensma

Memorial Tribute Patricia Mae (Baartman) Steensma, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Vande Vegte) Baartman, was born on June 30, 1941 at her parents’ home in Boyden, IA. She spent her childhood years in Boyden, and attended Boyden Public School. On March 30, 1962 she married John Steensma at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. They made their home in Sanborn where they enjoyed over 45 years of marriage. Pat joyfully performed the duties of a homemaker, and was a wonderful mother. Once her children were raised, she enjoyed keeping herself busy by cleaning businesses and homes. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very important to Pat. The family took their annual vacations together for many years. She loved getting together with her coffee group and going to lunch with her daughters. She attended a ladies' Bible study for many years, and was a member of Cornerstone URC in Sanborn. Hobbies included gardening and flowers, scrapbooking, quilting and crafts. She enjoyed helping others. After her courageous fight against leukemia, the Lord called Pat home on November 3, 2007 at the age of 66. Survivors include her husband, John and their children: Marsha (Dave) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA, Carla (Marv) Vis of Hull, IA, Sharon (Tom) Adams of Hartley, IA, Sue (Kevin) Gonnerman of Sanborn, IA, and Bryan Steensma of Sheldon, IA; 13 grandchildren (of whom she was very proud!) Jason Elgersma, Nikki Elgersma, Paige (Jesse) Graves, Zachary Elgersma, Jamie (Jose) Curiel, Kaleb and Riley Vis, Pierce, Ethan and Noah Adams, and Austen, Maycin and Payton Gonnerman; her two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Parker Curiel (and a third one on the way); three brothers: Kenneth (Shirley) Baartman, Ed (Kathy) Baartman, and Allen (Bonnie) Baartman. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Ann Baartman, and step-mother Katie Baartman. In Remembrance of Patricia M.
