Memorial Tribute
Marley Ann (Fink) (Strait) Hoekstra was born in Sanborn, IA on July 24, 1932. She was the daughter of Lynn Machamer and Venita (Fink) Clark, and was raised by Ross and Beatrice Fink. She spent her childhood years in Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn Public School.
In 1951 Marley married Joe Strait, and they were blessed with three children: Jody, Denise and Pat. They later divorced. On January 26, 1973 she married Harold Hoekstra. The couple first resided in the Sheldon and Sanborn areas, and then relocated to Raleigh, NC and Ft. Myers, FL. They retired and moved back to Sanborn in 1997.
Marley was a very creative and talented person. She enjoyed painting, collecting Teddy Bears, reading, flower gardening, and genealogy. One of her favorite pastime activities was going to garage sales and flea markets. She made friends easily wherever she went, and had many “best friends”. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, the Red Hat Society, Friends of Bill W., and the TSAT Club. She passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the age of 75.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years—Harold; two children, Denise (Strait) Brown of Overland Park, KS and Pat and his wife Darla Strait of Hartley, IA; a daughter-in-law Ann Strait of Hartley, IA; four stepchildren: Kurt Hoekstra of Aztec, NM, and Karen (Hoekstra) Dinius, Kraig and his wife Weslyn Hoekstra, and Karla (Hoekstra) Duke all of Tucson, AZ; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; five brothers: Tom, Gary, Kirby and Rick Clark, and Mickey Machamer; one sister Linda Machamer; a host of other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents and grandparents; her first husband, Joe; one son, Jody Strait; one granddaughter Samantha Strait; one brother, Paul Fink; four sisters: Mary Fahlencamp, Pat Stofferan, Betty Benner, and Joan Clark.
