Obituary of Sherwood Otto

Sherwood Nolan Otto, the son of Richard and Henrietta (Jensen) Otto, was born on April 7, 1930 in Hartley, IA. He was educated in the Hartley Public Schools, and graduated in 1948. He served in the United States Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, CA from 1951 through 1953.
On November 14. 1954, he was united in marriage to Elaine Stamer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown, IA. Sherwood had been a farmer his entire life until the last two years. He raised Shorthorn cattle, and attended many Shorthorn cattle sales and shows. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, and attending their church and school activities. Being a member of the American Legion was very important to him. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Following a brief illness, Sherwood passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the age of 77. According to his own wishes, his body was cremated.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; three daughters and their husbands: Valerie and Dr. Rick Dohrmann of Dakota Dunes, SD, Shelley and Mark Condon of Sioux City, IA, and Tracy and Dan McAdams of Cave Creek, AZ; one son and his wife, Kevin and Melody Otto of Jericho Springs, MO; six grandchildren: Ryan Dohrmann of Temecula, CA, Erin Dohrmann of Tempe, AZ, Matthew, Alex, and Cassidy Condon of Sioux city, IA, and Danielle (Crossett) Sackett of Vail, AZ; one brother Sharon Otto and his wife Marian of Hartley, IA; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Henrietta, four sisters: June Arlene (in infancy), Helen (Nick) Schoelerman, Viola (Joe) Fahlenkamp, and Velma (Ted) Henning.
Memorials given in Sherwood’s name may be directed to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley, IA or to the ICU department at Spencer Municipal Hospital, Spencer, IA.
