Obituary of Della Mae Rubsam

Della Mae Rubsam, the daughter of Henry and Maggie (Ihnen) Brueggeman, was born and baptized at the Adolph Brueggeman residence, Horton Township, Osceola County on May 3, 1922. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was a life long member. Della Mae graduated from Harris Public High School. Following graduation she worked at Dick Woodsworth’s grocery store. On November 2, 1941 Della Mae was united in marriage to Arlyn Rubsam at the home of Rev. E. J. Kallsen. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Harris area until Arlyn’s passing on October 29, 1985. She worked at the U.S. Post Office in Harris for 30 years and also served as a substitute clerk at Ocheyedan, Lake Park, and Round Lake Post Offices. Della Mae continued to live in her home in Harris until entering Country View Manor in Sibley on August 23, 2007 and passed away there on September 13, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a model midwest Iowa farmer’s wife and mother. Della Mae taught Sunday School for many years at St. John’s Lutheran Church, was a charter member of the Ladies Aid, and a long standing member of the PIO Club. She loved gardening, farming, and was actively involved in community activities. Della Mae is survived by her two sons: Ronald Rubsam and his wife, Carolyn, of Hartley, IA, and Ray Rubsam and his wife, Carol, of Olathe, KS; five grandchildren: Robert Rubsam and his wife, Lisa, of Urbandale, IA; Renae Schmidt and her husband, Marty, of Clear Lake, IA; Kristine Marco and her husband, James, of Craig, IA; Rachel Whitaker and her husband, Justin, of Lenexa, KS; Amber Rubsam and fiancé David Scherrer, of Lenexa, KS; step-grandchildren: Jennifer Prince and her husband, Wayne, of Waconda, IL; Kris Lemus and her husband, Carlos, of Olympia, WA; six great grandchildren: Brodrick, Kerilyn, Torianna, and Eliza Schmidt; Olivia and Asha Rubsam; step great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Andrew, Isabela and Rhianna Prince;Tate Rivers and Anna Olson-Lemus. She is also survived by a very special friend of many years, Albert Breuker, and his family; sister: Elaine “Tootie” Mehan, of Milford, IA; sisters-in-law: Marge Brueggeman, of Lake Park, IA; Laura Dahlman, of Melvin, IA; Doris Rubsam of Worthington, MN; Doris, “Dodie” Rubsam of Fresno, CA; and Lesta Rubsam, of Sacramento, CA; brother-in-law: Daryl Rubsam and his wife, Madge, of Hialeah, FL, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband: Arlyn, and brother: Marlyn “Bud” Brueggeman.
