Memorial Tribute
Jessie Florence (Elgersma) Vos, the daughter of Peter and Cynthia (Hofland) Elgersma, was born on October 6, 1915 in O’Brien County, IA. Her childhood years were spent in and around Sanborn, and she attended both the area country school and Sanborn Christian School.
She was united in marriage to John G. Vos on November 9, 1936 at Canton, SD. During their marriage, the couple owned and operated their own trucking business. All of her life, Jessie was a hard worker. She drove truck for their trucking business, worked for AMPI, and then at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn for 20 years—retiring from there at the age of 80.
Her greatest joy was in taking care of her family, and she completely dedicated her life to them all—helping with everything from babysitting the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to cooking meals for everyone. Her hobbies included crocheting, and playing cards and board games. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn. Jessie passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home on September 8, 2007 at the age of 91.
Survivors include three daughters and their families: Francine (Harold) Brandt, La Vonne (Gary) Daggett, and Darla (Randy) Brown, all of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and
8 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Angie Elgersma of Sanborn and Mag Mulder of Charles City, IA; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, son Peter J. Vos, daughter-in-law Barbara Vos, grandson Mark W. Vos, two brothers Jake M. and his wife Nellie Elgersma and Henry Elgersma, and several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
