Memorial Tribute
Eunice Jean (Vander Velde) Kroese, the daughter of Martin and Maggie (Vander Schaaf) Vander Velde was born in Hospers, Iowa on February 17, 1925. She grew up on a farm near Sanborn. She attended Summit Township Country School, and graduated from Sanborn High School. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa.
On June 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald Kroese at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. After the marriage, she taught 5th and 6th grades at Sanborn Public School for one year. She taught Sunday School and catechism at First Reformed Church for more than 30 years.
Eunice worked for many years at Norton’s Hardware in Sanborn. A favorite hobby—sewing, became a much loved vocation as she specialized in making draperies at Letty’s Draperies in Sanborn, and later with her sister-in-law, Katy Vander Velde. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, dominoes, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn.
Survivors include her husband, Don; her three children: Ron Kroese and Kimberly Colburn of Falcon Heights, MN, Vonnie and Dave Hofman of Primghar, IA, and Bob and Nancy Kroese of Pella, IA; nine grandchildren: Gabriel, Jesse, Jasmine, Stephan, Seth, Rebecca, Sarah, Clarissa and Nathan; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth Vander Velde, sister Glenice Lamkin, and a granddaughter Katrina Kroese.
