Memorial Tribute
Dorothy Ann (Sorensen) Chrisman, the daughter of M.K. and Velva (Cole) Sorensen, was born on July 9, 1929 in Sioux City, IA. She spent her youth in Woodbine, IA until her family moved to Hartley in 1940. She graduated from Hartley High School, and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.
Dorothy's life-long career in the newspaper business first began in 1948 at the Hartley Sentinel. She was united in marriage to Gordon Chrisman on January 16, 1956. She went to work for the Sanborn Pioneer in 1961, and became the manager there in 1972. She purchased the Sanborn Publishing Company in 1973, and was editor/publisher of the Pioneer until her death on July 18, 2007. As any successful editor should be, she paid great attention to the details of the business--even as she managed from her home. Aside from the newspaper, at one time she enjoyed doing some independent accounting for local businesses, and in later years enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son and business partner, Scott Chrisman of Sanborn; two sisters-in-law, Marvel Appleton and Bonnie Vollink; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon in 1987, and her brother Gene Sorensen.
