Obituary of Lovella Goldhorn

Lovella (Heeren) Goldhorn, the daughter of Clarence and Marie (Runge) Heeren was born on May 23, 1925 in Sibley, IA. She spent her childhood years in Sibley, and graduated from Sibley High School in 1943. On September 2, 1948 she married Ben Goldhorn in Ellsworth MN. They lived in the George, IA and Pipestone, MN areas before settling in Sanborn in 1964. Lovella and Ben were blessed with four daughters: Janice, Carla, Marilyn and Ronda. While the girls were growing up, Lovella was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. In 1966 she began working as a nurse’s aide at Prairie View Nursing Home. She had the privilege of having been one of the first five ladies hired at Prairie View when they first opened their doors, and was employed there for a total of 25 years. At one time, she and Ben were janitors at First Presbyterian Church. Ben passed away on April 4, 1992. Lovella was known to be a woman of strong faith, a hard worker and someone who was always there when needed. She loved to garden, and spent many hours canning the vegetables that she grew. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn. Surviviors include her four daughters: Janice Ewert of Sanborn, Carla Goldhorn and her special friend John Caraconscea of Sanborn, Marilyn and her husband Charles Anderson of Webb, and Ronda and her husband Art Laubach of Hartley; four grandchildren: Amy Ewert of Garner, IA, Benjamin Goldhorn of Sanborn, Matthew Anderson of Webb, and Brianna Laubach of Hartley; one brother Erwin Heeren of George, IA; two sisters-in-law Alice Goldhorn of Rock Rapids, IA and Leona Goldhorn of Iowa Falls, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, and her son-in-law Bryant Ewert.
