Obituary of Howard Smith

Howard Eugene Smith, the son of Paul and Martha (Koepp) Smith was born on August 23, 1924 in Ramona, SD. During his childhood, his family lived in the Ramona area, and he attended the school there. On July 24, 1949, he married Dolores Warnke in the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, IA. The early years of their marriage were spent in Primghar, IA. In 1956 they moved to Carmichael, CA, and raised their family there. Howard worked as a carpenter for the Union of California for 50 years, and retired in 1981. After spending three years living in Canon City, CO, the couple moved to Sanborn in 2000. Howard enjoyed camping, bowling, square dancing and hunting. After a brief illness, he passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn at the age of 82. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; three children and their families: Kendall Smith and his wife, Gloria of Sacramento, CA, Leslie Smith of Moreno Valley, CA, and Sharla Conyers and her husband Alan of Sacramento, CA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother Roger Smith and his wife Loretta of Primghar. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Alvina, Ruth, and Darlene; 3 brothers: Paul Jr., Darrel, and Orville.
