Obituary of Genevieve Irene Van Kooten

    Genvieve Irene Van Kooten, daughter of John and Annie (De Boer) Den Hartog, was born January 12, 1923 in Hospers, IA. She received her education, and graduated from Hospers High School.
    On May 15, 1942, Genevieve was united in marriage to Jerome John Van Kooten at Long Beach, CA. They built a life together in Bellflower, CA where they raised their daughter, Beth. They relocated to Sanborn, IA in 1989.
    Genevieve loved to cook, and she put that passion to good use working at the school cafeteria for many years. She always enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandsons, and more recently, great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where she participated in church activities.
    She passed from this life, surrounded by loved ones, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; her parents, John and Annie Den Hartog; son-in-law, Fred Bos; brothers: Alvin, Frances, Richard, and Howard; sisters: Angelina, Alma, and Wilma; brothers-in-law: John Zwagerman, Bill Grotenhuis, and Bert Van Kiley; sisters-in-law: Alvina and Ann; and her “surrogate grandson”, Brandon Oldenkamp.
    Cherishing her memory, Genevieve is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Peter Dalzen of Rochester, MN; grandsons: Joel, Aaron, and Brian (Meghan) Bos; great-grandchildren: Carter, Kaydence, Grayson and Caden; brothers: Don (Audrey) Den Hartog and John (Anna) Den Hartog all of Orange City, IA; sisters: Luella Grotenhuis of Orange City, IA, and Wanda (Bill) Johnson of Sun City, AZ; sister-in-law, Ada Den Hartog; and brother-in-law, Roger Dekker; other relatives and friends.
