Obituary of Cleo Schroeder

Cleo Dorothea (Collmann) Schroeder, the daughter of Lou W. and Clara (Furchner) Collmann was born on March 12, 1913 on her family farm near LeMars, IA. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Cleo attended rural country school and went on to graduate from LeMars High School in 1930. She furthered her education at Northwestern College in Orange City where she received her teaching accreditation. Cleo was united in marriage to Fred Schroeder on November 17, 1934, in Plymouth County, IA. To this union four children were born: Dean, Lynn, David and Deanna. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Sioux City, IA and moved to the Hartley area in 1943 where they began farming with her parents. In her earlier years, Cleo taught in rural schools in Plymouth and O'Brien Counties. Cleo and Fred retired from farming and moved into the town of Hartley in 1971. Fred passed away on June 28, 2008. Cleo continued to live in her own home until moving to the Community Memorial Health Center on December 18, 2013. She passed away there on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the age of 101. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 1943. Cleo served on the Ladies Aid, was a member of the Friendly Circle and taught Sunday School for many years. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dean Schroeder and his wife, Glenda, of Pine, CO, Lynn Olhausen and her husband, Dale, of Loveland, CO, David Schroeder and his wife, Becky, of Hartley, IA, and Deanna Enright of Mankato, MN; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years, Fred: brother Ralph and sister, Ruth. Celebration of Life Cleo D.
