Henry Gerald "Kope" Koldenhoven, son of Gerrit and Alice (Bos) Koldenhoven, was born December 18, 1934 near Ireton, IA. In 1944, the family moved to a farm near Sanborn, IA. He attended Sanborn Christian School, and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1952. Kope served in the United States Army from 1955 - 1957 as part of the peacekeeping forces in Japan. He also served in the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. On August 27, 1957, Kope was united in marriage to Myrna Joan Verbrugge at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. The couple was blessed with three children: Brian, Sheila, and Gregg. Following their marriage, Kope began working at the Sanborn Body Shop and was employed there for 10 years. Eventually, he purchased the business and operated it until his retirement at the end of 1999. Kope was a life-long member of the Christian Reformed Church; serving on the SCS Board and Church Council. He enjoyed singing, fishing, gardening, and a good game of pool. Operating and repairing mechanical things was a natural for Kope, and he often spent his leisure time just "putzing" around in his shop. Kope and Myrna raised their family, and lived their entire married life in the Sanborn area. Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Brian Koldenhoven and his wife, Cindy, of Sanborn, IA, Sheila Lammers and her husband, Don, of Denver, CO, and Gregg Koldenhoven and his wife, Diana of Longmont, CO; seven grandchildren: Brent Koldenhoven and his wife Lindsey, Michael Koldenhoven and his wife Cassi, Joseph Lammers, Darin Lammers, Alison Lammers, Maxwell Henry Koldenhoven, Bricelyn Koldenhoven; four great-grandchildren: Kaylen, Alivia, Brayden, and Jase; one brother, Jim Koldenhoven and his wife, Sally; and one sister, Marilyn Vander Ark and her husband, Cork. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrna, on July 15, 2006, one grandson in infancy, and one great-grandson in infancy.
