Daryl “Mike” Hobart Burley, the son of Chester and Grace (Palmer) Burley was born on October 18, 1920, in Sibley, IA. He lived his early years in the Sibley, IA area and later moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD where he graduated from the Mark Twain Washington High School in 1939. Following his school years he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1942 to 1945 in WW II. On June 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Louise Popp at the United Methodist Church in Hartley, IA. To this union four boy’s where born: Rodger, Rodney, Todd and Scott. Following their marriage the couple resided in Hartley where Mike worked for Burley’s Appliance, G and V Supply, Boyer Cheverolet, Goetch International Harvestor and later his most loved job working for the Hartley Elementary School as a custodian. Mike passed away at the Hartley Community Memorial Health Center on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the age of 92. Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley. He was very involved with the Meadowbrook Country Club; Mike was also a member of an area Dance Club, the American Legion and the Hartley Volunteer Fire Department. He and Louise loved to Dance and take Casino trips together. Mike was very involved with golfing and could still play 27 holes at age 91, enjoyed going shopping, playing the piano and having coffee with his friends. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their activities. He is survived by his wife, Louise, of 65 years; four sons: Rodger (Paula) Burley of Hartley, IA, Rodney “Boomer” (Beth) Burley of Hartley, IA, Todd (Barb) Burley of Urbandale, IA and Scott (Laura) Burley of Apple Valley, MN; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; other relatives and many friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Alvin (Bus) Burley.
