Obituary of Lorene Petersen

Lorene Katherine Petersen, the daughter of Chris H. Seegers and Elsie M. Wassman was born on January 21, 1929 in Ocheyedan, IA. She lived her early years in the Ocheyedan area and attended grade school at Horton Parochial School and later attended Ocheyedan High School graduating in 1947 with honors. Following her school years she first worked for Western Union in Sioux City, IA and later in Chicago, IL. She then returned to Spirit Lake, IA to work for the Iowa Electric Light & Power Company. On September 24, 1950 she was united in marriage to Alvin E. Petersen at the Horton Church near Ocheyedan, IA. The couple was blessed with two sons, Gary and Dennis. Following their marriage the couple were engaged in farming together on the family farm Northeast of Hartley for 41 years. Lorene moved to the Hartley Community Memorial Health Center in October of 2010 and passed away there on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 83. Lorene was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ where she was active in Dorcas Society and the Duo Decum Club. She loved to assemble jigsaw puzzles, play cards, read and spend time gardening, canning and fishing. Most of all she loved enjoyed her grandchildren and all of their activities. She is survived by her husband, Alvin, of 62 years; two sons: Gary Petersen and his wife, Barbara, of Plymouth, MN and Dennis Petersen and his wife, Joan, of Hartley, IA; three grandchildren; Matthew Petersen of Sheldon, IA, Nicholas Petersen of St. Louis, MO, and Tara Petersen of Ankeney, IA. other relatives and friends.
