Please share a memory of Scott to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Scott Dwane Honken, the son of Everon and Marilyn (Geerdes) Honken, was born on October 2, 1969, at the Sibley Hospital in Sibley, IA. He attended grade school in Sibley and in 1982 Scott moved with his family to Hartley and finished his education by graduating in 1988 from Hartley-Melvin High School. Scott went on to attend Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, IA and graduated with a degree in Hotel-Motel Restaurant Management. On May 30, 1992 he was united in marriage to Amy Sue Stolfus at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA. Following their marriage the couple lived in Estherville, Spirit Lake and then in 1994 moved to Hartley. Scott worked at the Handy Shops Convenience Stores, Evertek, and later Med-Equip Pharmacy. When he was able to work he poured himself into it, he loved the challenges of work, working with his co-workers and knowing that he was contributing to the success of an organization. Following a nine year courageous battle with cancer, Scott passed away on June 19, 2012 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley at the age of 42. Scott was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley, and he also had served on the Hartley Chamber of Commerce. He loved vegetable gardening, making homemade soup, home improvement projects, working on the computer and a can of coke. Most of all he loved the relationship he had with his wife, family and friends. This meant the world to him, especially when he became an uncle. Those that knew and loved Scott will remember how kind and good hearted he was. Through all that he endured, his sense of humor and hopeful attitude remained. He was preceded in death by his father Everon Honken, an infant brother Shane Honken, father-in-law Lowell Stolfus and both of his paternal and maternal grandparents.. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Amy, the love of his life for 20 years; mother: Marilyn Honken of Hartley; a brother: Shawn Honken of Minneapolis, MN; his mother-in-law: Linda Stolfus of New Hampton, IA; three sisters-in-law: Lisa Sullivan of Frisco, TX, Ladine Knapp and her husband Rod of New Hampton, IA, and Dena Honken of Hartley; nieces and nephews: Grant and Eli Honken, Cam and Maddie Knapp, and Tori Sullivan; many other relatives and friends.
