Obituary of Laura Dahlman

Laura Esther (Rubsam) Dahlman, was born on July 12, 1915 at Williamsburg, IA to August and Minnie (Nicola) Rubsam. She was baptized on March 31, 1939 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 at the Lutheran Church in Melvin. Laura attended country school in the May City area and graduated from Melvin High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Clarence Dahlman on June 10, 1936 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Melvin. Together the couple farmed in the Melvin and Sibley areas and eventually moved to Melvin in March of 1962. Laura sold Tupperware, cooked at the Café and Bowling Alley in Melvin. She went on to cook at the Melvin Public School from 1967 to 1981 when it closed. On April 10, 2009 she moved to the Assisted Living in Hartley and passed away there on January 9, 2012 at the age of 96. Laura loved people and many cups of coffee were drank and goodies eaten around her kitchen table. She was an excellent cook, loved to garden, can and freeze her own produce. Playing cards with family & friends, putting together jigsaw puzzles and word searches were some of her hobbies. What she loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Melvin. She is survived by her five granddaughters and their families: Denise (Loran) Anderson and their son Reed of May City, IA, DeAnn Schultz of Creston, IA, Brenda Schultz and her daughters Nicole and April Welle of Fostoria, IA, Danette (Keith) Nolte and their daughters Kaley and Maci of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Delaine (John) Tanis and their daughter Carlyn, of Camden, NC; a brother: Daryl Rubsam of Hialeah, FL; sister-in-law: Doris Rubsam of Fresno, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in March of 1998, daughter Cheryl Thiele in August of 2007, son-in-law Delbert Schultz in April 2009 and daughter Marlene Schultz in February of 2010, five brothers, one sister and many brothers and sisters in law.
