Please share a memory of Eunice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eunice Grace (Runia) Wiekamp, the daughter of Cornelius and Grace (Rutgers) Runia was born on May 10, 1939 near Melvin, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Melvin area, and she attended Ocheyedan Christian and Western Christian, where she graduated in 1957. She went to nursing school in Sioux Falls, SD and later received further training at Baylor University in Dallas, TX. On Dec. 10, 1965 she married Arlan Wiekamp at Ocheyedan, IA.While they were living on a farm near Alton, Eunice worked at the Orange City Hospital. The couple were blessed with one son and five daughters. They farmed in the Maurice and Sanborn areas before moving to Sheldon in 2003. Eunice was a member of Sanborn CRC and Bible fellowship. She loved doing things with her hands—whether it was gardening, crotcheting, doing crafts or making doll clothes for her grandkids. Eunice enjoyed looking at the beauty in flowers. She devoted herself to her family, and completely adored her grandchildren. Saturday night Perkins dates with Pete and Bertie were so special. In her last days her family joked that she made them all into squirrel and birdwatchers! They take comfort knowing that she was smiling as she met Jesus, and is now at peace in His arms. Eunice is survived by her loving husband, Arlan and their children: Valerie and John Cain of Ankeny, Kevin and Tonya Wiekamp of Sanborn, Gail and Clayton Rensink of Sioux Center, Marla and Tom Wibben of Sheldon, Mavis and Rick Henning of Brainerd, MN, Carisa and Mark Ten Kley of Sheldon; her 13 special grandchildren; her mother-in-law Rouvina Wiekamp of Orange City; brothers Peter and Bertie Runia of Ocheyedan, and Alvin and Mary Runia of Melvin; sisters Gert Hibma of Spirit Lake, Kay and Lee Hanenburg of Englewood, CO, Lois and Erwin Cuperus of Mesa, AZ, Esther DeBoer of Sanborn; sisters-in-law Joan Runia of Sanborn and Janice Wiekamp of Orange City.
