Glenn Henry Damman Obituary
Glenn Henry Damman, second child of George and Jean (Blok) Damman, was born on the farm north of Sanborn, Iowa on December 13, 1933. He grew up with his older brother, Bob and younger sister, Eileen on his parents’ farm northwest of Sanborn where he began his lifelong career in agriculture.
He received his education at the public school in Sanborn. While in high school, Glenn played basketball and baseball for the Bulldogs, was also a member of the local F.F.A. chapter and attended Hawkeye Boys State. He graduated from Sanborn High School with the class of 1952.
From April of 1955 to March of 1957, Glenn served his country in the United States Army being stationed at Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Sanborn and resumed doing what he loved best - farming with his father and brother.
While work on the farm took up the major part of his day, Glenn still had time for other interests…Bonnie Jean Brandt was one of them. They were united in marriage on Saturday, November 30, 1963, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. The newlyweds made their home in town and Glenn commuted every day to the farm…life was good. It got even better when three little Dammans were added to their family: David, Daryl and Renae.
Along with planting and harvesting row crops of corn and soybeans, Glenn and Bob put in a small field of sweet corn and a HUGE garden of tomatoes, potatoes, melons, and squash. When they had their fill, it was generously shared with neighbors and friends, asking nothing in return. Being good stewards of the land they were given to care for was a driving force for Glenn. Farming was in his blood, and it never changed. Like other men in his occupation, he was hopeful every spring, worked til dark throughout the summer, looked forward to each harvest and took a well-deserved rest in the winter. Time spent with family was the only thing that came close to the satisfaction he felt sitting in his tractor.
On Sunday, April 26, 2026, Glenn was reunited with loved ones who had gone before: his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Jean; son, Daryl Damman; his parents, George and Jean Damman; brother Bob (Marilyn) Damman; sister, Eileen Floyd; brother-in-law, Keith Brandt; and one nephew.
Keeping his memory close at heart are his son, David Damman of Sanborn, Iowa; daughter, Renae (Stewart) Damman of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren: Augusta, Brandt (Megan), Clara and Dena Damman; other relatives and friends.
Memorials given in Glenn's honor will be directed to
St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn.
