Roman Demkiw Obituary

    Roman Demkiw, son of Elias “Ilko” and Veronica (Kolodziejczk) Demkiw, was born in Murnau, Germany on August 6, 1946. He spent his youth in the United States, settling in Detroit, Michigan and attending Hamtramck High School located there, where he spoke in fluent English, Ukrainian, and Polish.


    Beginning in August of 1967, Roman served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in August of 1970. During that time, he spent two years overseas, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal.


    On March 25, 1976, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Dronka in Mt. Clemons, Michigan. They made their home in Detroit, Michigan where Roman was employed with the local media group as a salesman.


    On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Roman passed from this life at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa having reached the age of 79 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ilko (1985) and Veronica (2005) Demkiw.


    Those left to honor his memory include: Cynthia Demkiw; and his son, Alexander Demkiw both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren: Shane Demkiw, Elias Demkiw, Maximus Demkiw and Sasha Demkiw; his sister, Stephanie and her husband, Michael Kwietniewski of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; niece and nephews: Michael Kwietniewski, Julia (Kwietniewski) Barth, Andrew Kwietniewski, and Katherine Dronka; as well as other relatives and friends.
