Judith Marie “Judy” Erick, daughter of Wilfred and Bernice (Foxhoven) Silberstein, was born March 2, 1953, in Cherokee, Iowa. She grew up in Paullina, Iowa and received her education there, graduating from Paullina High School with the class of 1972.
On November 17, 1985, Judy was united in marriage to Jon Lee Erick at Kingston, Jamaica. The new couple established their home in Everly, Iowa and soon after, welcomed two children to their family. Their son, Jordan, arrived June 4, 1988, followed by their daughter, Jalisa, on June 20, 1989.
For the past 21 years, Jon and Judy have owned and operated Hartley Autobody and Glass located in Hartley, Iowa. Judy’s days were always full - keeping track of her kids’ activities, running her household and helping Jon at the shop. Fridays were not only the end of another busy week, but a chance to get together with “the girls” after work…something she always looked forward to - but if there was an Iowa Hawkeye game on TV, she’d have to make sure she was home in time to see the beginning. (GO HAWKS!) There was not only enough room in her heart for her family, friends and favorite team, but furry creatures as well. Judy had a big soft spot for animals – great and small.
Running your own business usually doesn’t leave much room for anything else, but if they could manage some downtime, Jon and Judy would pack up the kids (and whatever else they needed) and take off on short camping trips during the summer. Lots of memorable moments were created in the great outdoors - or just sitting around a campfire at the end of the day. It really didn’t matter where it was or what they were doing, Judy’s favorite place to be was around her family…especially if it meant being able to dote on her one and only grandchild! She had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of a second little bundle this coming spring. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly and participated in church functions.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, Judy passed from this life to her home in Heaven; she was 72 years of age. There to greet her were her mother, Bernice; her father, Wilfred; her stepfather, Charles Traver; and her brother, Fred Silberstein.
Keeping her memory close in heart are her husband of 40 years, Jon Erick of Everly, Iowa; children: Jordan Erick also of Everly, and Jalisa (Joe) McIntire of Hartley, Iowa; brothers: Mike (Leah) Silberstein and David Traver; other relatives and many friends.
