Don Gene Rasmussen, age 84, was born on April 12, 1941, in Hartley, Iowa to Kermit Gransee Rasmussen and Laura Doris (Jurgemeyer) Rasmussen. He attended country school at Business Corner and later graduated from Hartley High School in 1959. 

    Don proudly served in the National Guard for six years. He worked as a truck driver for Kraft Trucking in May City, Iowa, before beginning his lifelong career in farming, which was his greatest passion. Don took pride in the land and equipment he worked with and especially enjoyed his Allis-Chalmers tractors! Don cherished the camaraderie of the Lorch family who farmed the land around him and shared his dedication to agriculture.

    In his free time, Don enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed coffee and conversations with friends in May City. He especially enjoyed his Pizza Ranch outings with Bob and Deb Rusche. He also had a love for bowling, attending farm sales, and woodworking.

    Don passed away peacefully on December 20 at Osceola Senior Living in Sibley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Laura Rasmussen and his sister-in-law.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings: Grace (Larry) Winterboer of Bremen, Indiana, Kent Rasmussen of Coralville, Iowa, and Nancy Colby of Bertha, Minnesota. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Brett Rasmussen of Coralville, Iowa, Brenda (David) Corso of Iowa City, Iowa, Steve (Deb) Rasmussen of Ely, Iowa, Jeff (Kathie) Winterboer of Hagerstown, Indiana, Ritchie (Joanne) Winterboer of Manito, Illinois, Ryan (Brenda) Winterboer of Solsberry, Indiana, Chad Hurtig of Bertha, Minnesota, Angie Hurtig (Corey) of Hewitt, Minnesota, and Matthew Colby (Cathy) of Deer Creek, Minnesota.  

Don will be remembered for his strong love of farming, family,

and the friendships he valued throughout his life.
