Rose Ann Wegter, formerly of Archer, Iowa, has passed away following a long-term illness. After graduating from the Archer High School in 1948, she attended a teacher preparation program at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She taught country school until marrying in 1950. Rose Ann held several other jobs over the years including Nurse’s Aide, salesclerk and bookkeeper. Perhaps her most unique job was as a truck-tire retreader and her longest career segment was that of a USDA Meat and Poultry Inspector.

Rose Ann was born August 8, 1929, to parents, Peter and Jeanette (Roetman) DeBoom. She married Gerald Wegter at the Archer Reformed Church in June of 1950. The couple had three children Merlynn, Marvin and Geraldine.

When Gerald and their sons ran the blacksmith shop in Archer, Rose Ann handled the bookwork and helped with ordering materials. She also remained active in several church committees over the years. Family and community had always been very important to Rose Ann. Their family had enjoyed doing many things together, including camping and stock car racing. When their oldest son raced at local speedways, she was usually in the grandstand cheering him on.

While Gerald served as Chief of the Archer Volunteer Fire Department, Rose Ann helped to establish the Firemen’s Fundraising Meal to raise money for firefighting equipment and training. Upon retiring from the USDA, Rose Ann worked with other local quilters to form a charity quilting group, donating hundreds of quilts to neo-natal nurseries at Sioux Falls, SD hospitals, as well as other local needs.

On Friday, November 7, 2025, Rose Ann passed from this life at the age of 96 years. Those left to remember her include her son, Merlynn (Cindy) Wegter of Bear, DE; daughter-in-law, Denise Wegter of Buffalo, MN; daughter, Geraldine Fridlington of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Jason (Holly) Wegter, Brianne Wegter, Sarah (Christopher) Griffith, Michael (Ashley Belisle) Wegter, and Heather Fridlington; great-grandchildren: Miles, Ember, Henry, Eira and Eavlynne; siblings: Marlene Zevenbergen, Gary DeBoom and Ron (Jenny) DeBoom; and many nieces and nephews.

Those preceding Rose Ann in death include her parents; her husband, Gerald Wegter; son, Marvin Wegter; brother, Darrell (Phyllis) DeBoom; sister, Maureen (Donald) Miller; brother-in-law, John Zevenbergen; and sister-in-law, Jean DeBoom.
