Robert Junior "Bob" Nonneman Obituary

Robert Junior “Bob” Nonneman, the youngest of three children of Clarence “Dick” and Gertrude (Arend) Nonneman, was born November 3, 1932, in Sibley, Iowa. He grew up on his parents’ farm near Melvin, Iowa and attended school there. Having been a sports enthusiast at an early age, Bob’s education included being a proud member of the Melvin baseball and basketball teams. He graduated as Class President from Melvin High School in 1951.

On June 18, 1953, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Pyle, at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin. Their family grew to include three children: Cindy, Doug and Alisa. Bob was a faithful steward of the Nonneman family farm, situated on the southern outskirts of Melvin.

Bob had always liked being outdoors, whether it was hunting in his younger years or later on, sitting on the bleachers at a baseball game. His love of sports would continue throughout his entire lifetime. He had acted as a basketball referee and scorekeeper while his kids were in school and had thoroughly enjoyed watching them compete in their various sporting events. Although he loved to watch the games, what he really liked was eating popcorn at the games (or anywhere else he could buy it)!

Bob gave back to his community by serving as president of the Osceola County Fair Board for many years. He was also a judge for various other county fairs, as well as an announcer for several horse shows. It was his wonderful “gift of gab” that gave him the opportunity to announce the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales at the Clay County Fair held in Spencer, Iowa. He was a lifelong member of the American Lutheran Church in Melvin where he served as a deacon and sang in the church choir.

Following his retirement in 1997, Bob spent his golden years with Barb in Melvin – looking forward to seeing grandkids and spending time with family and friends. In 2021, Bob’s health dictated a move to Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa. A few months later, shortly after celebrating their 68th Wedding Anniversary, Barb passed away at their home in Melvin.

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, Bob and Barb were joyfully reunited when he peacefully passed from this life at Country View Manor/Osceola Senior Health. He had just celebrated his 93rd birthday.

Loved ones who have gone before include Bob’s wife, Barbara Jean; his parents, Clarence “Dick” and Gertrude “Gertie” Nonneman; his brother, Dennis “Denny” (Sharon) Nonneman; and sister, Mary Louise “Dolly” (Phil) Kaiser.

Keeping Bob’s memory close at heart are his children: Cindi (Doug) Seibold of Spencer, Iowa, Doug Nonneman of Sheldon, Iowa, and Alisa (Rick) Heller of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren: Brittney Seibold (Lucas Gunderson), Ashley (Jared) Cartee, and Lindsey Heller (Cole Hembrough); one great-grandchild, Kobe Gunderson; other relatives and close friends.

Bob was an absolute joy to be around. His terrific sense of humor and

his ability to tell a story about anything to anyone will be greatly missed.

He never met a stranger.
