Veda Marie (Veldhuizen) Bousema entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, having reached the age of one hundred years and six days.

    Veda was born to John and Hattie (Schemper) Veldhuizen on October 1, 1925, in Prairie View, Kansas. She moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, at nine months old. She attended the Jack Oak country school through the eighth grade. Her father passed away when she was sixteen years old. Her mother later married J.K. Schemper and she moved with them to Sheldon, Iowa.

    On February 25, 1948, Veda was united in marriage to William “Bill” Bousema. They established their first home between Sheldon and Sanborn, Iowa, and later moved to Sanborn where they farmed for many years. Veda’s greatest joy was being a homemaker and caring for her family.  They were blessed with four children: Jacqueline, William, Allen and Kevin. After Bill retired, they spent winters in California, Arizona and Texas, but Veda was always so glad to be home. Veda grew beautiful flowers in her garden, often entering them in the county fair and taking home many awards. She also kept a diary, faithfully writing in it every day for over 50 years!

    Veda was a longtime member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where she participated in Bible studies. She also enjoyed the fellowship and outings with her Farm Bureau ladies.

    After the death of her husband in 2018, Veda had many health struggles and resided at Fieldcrest in Sheldon until moving to Sanford Senior Care in March of 2024.

    Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Jacqueline Pegg of Palm Desert, California, Bill (Bonnie) Bousema of Newport Beach, California, Allen (Cindy) Bousema of Sanborn, Iowa, and Kevin (Lauri) Bousema of Omaha, Nebraska; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Marie Bousema of Worthington, Minnesota, Greta Bomgaars of Bellflower, California, Marlene Bousema of Artesia, California, and Carol Bousema of Sheldon, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Carl Rossi of Clinton, UT.

    Veda was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; all her siblings: five brothers, two sisters and their spouses; and a stillborn baby brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband; his parents; a son-in-law, David Pegg; five brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.
